The IRSA Gold Medal is the highest accolade to be awarded by the Interventional Radiology Society of Australasia (IRSA). The Executive, at their discretion, may award the Gold Medal to any person who has rendered outstanding service or benefactions to the development, teaching, or practice of interventional radiology in Australasia and/or New Zealand. The award shall be determined by the IRSA Executive.

The Award

The Award is in the form of a Gold Medal, engraved appropriately, with an accompanying certificate. The Gold Medal shall be conferred during the next Annual Scientific Meeting of the society.

Award categories 

The Gold Medal is the most prestigious and highest honour awarded by the society and should only be awarded on occasions for exceptional and outstanding contributions. 

The Medal may be awarded in one or more of the following categories:

  1. The performance of innovative and original research that has led to significant advances in the sciences of interventional radiology, particularly where, as a result, the recipient has achieved international repute.
  2. Outstanding work of an administrative nature over a long period of time that has resulted in further development of facilities for education and research, and, consequently has been responsible for substantially raising the standard of teaching and practice in one or other of the sciences mentioned.
  3. Prolonged and exceptional service to the society over many years, of a continuous nature, including holding of one or more of the high offices of the society.
  4. Benefactions that have influenced, to a marked degree, the development of the sciences of interventional radiology in Australia or New Zealand.
  5. Work service or benefactions in other exceptional circumstances as determined from time to time by the Executive.
